Welcome to Lib-anon, the 12-Step place on the web for ex-Liberals and disillusioned and penitent Classical Liberals to meet, confess, and apologize to conservatives for slandering them forever and for being on the wrong side of so many important issues for the last four decades.
In keeping with the founder's obdurate secularism, this twelve-step will be open to anyone, and no references to God's guiding hand or Jesus's salvational redemption, or any such, will be forced on anyone. Neither will those who've found their way out of Liberalism's myopic and narcissistic maze of self-loathing thru the teachings of any religion be discouraged from or denied their testimony or the respect due them.
Our 12 steps to political redemption are:
1) Acknowledge the "Progressive Critique" is filled with hateful and inaccurate caricatures of conservatives, human nature and history.
2) Acknowledge the existence of positive, useful, knowable truth. Reject postmodernist, deconstructionist "thought"
3) Acknowledge that Vietnam was a two-part disaster, wrought with deliberation by Democrats, who have yet to apologize
4) Acknowledge America's goodness and historic exceptionalism, as the world's "last best hope."
5) Acknowledge democratic capitalism has empowered and improved the lives of billions, is the best of all self-governments
6) Acknowledge the real practical and eventual benefits to the world of American Empire
7) Acknowledge the brilliant success of Ronald Reagan; repudiate the shameless irredentist critics of Reaganism.
8) Repudiate Gnome Chomsky, Michael Mooreon, Coward Zinn et al, and spread the word of their lies and heinous sedition
9) Repudiate the white-guilt-based "thinking" of the Left in general, and of the New York Times cadre in particular.
10) Support Israel and other bastions of modernity and democracy in this crazy, often hideous, world of men.
11) Fly the Flag out proud; Sing the Anthem out loud; Know and Defend your Constitution; Love and Protect your Country
12) Apologize to every conservative you meet, for slandering and hindering them so cruelly and ignorantly, for so long..
So, then, "Hello, my name is Matt and I'm a Liberal." ... or, I was, until....
